Phoenix College’s Brianna Hardy is the only player in Phoenix College Softball history to have won both the NFCA and the 2019 Dudley NJCAA DII Softball Player of the Year award.

Hardy, a freshman pitcher and infielder, also earned First-Team NFCA All-American honors. She lead the NJCAA Division II in wins (32), strikeouts (371), strikeouts per game (12.55), and shutouts (19) according to “What a dynamite student athlete and young lady that Brianna is and what a performance for this past season,” said Women’s Softball Head Coach, Heinz Mueller. “Never has a pitcher in my entire 28-year career at Phoenix College been so dominant on the field as Brianna.” Hardy also performed in the batter’s box. She had a hitting average of .347, collected 42 hits, four doubles, 13 homers and 46 RBI for Phoenix.

Amidst her victories, Hardy had several physical hurdles to overcome during her first season with Phoenix College. She had a meniscus tear in fall of 2018 and even had an appendicitis surgery three weeks before the regional competition. “I was amazed how Brianna fought through those injuries and still played at a high level as a pitcher and hitter,” said Heinz. Hardy went on to break every Phoenix College record for pitching and led the nation in several pitching statistics.

“Despite that success,” said Heinz, “she is a very humble person as well and all her teammates love her. Looking forward to another great season next year.”
