The Phoenix College Softball Team attended the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Clinton, Mississippi and won 2nd place!

PC qualified for nationals as #4 in the nation and is now #2 in the nation -way to go, Bears! And congrats to head coach, Heinz Mueller for leading the team to another outstanding season. The team endured a grueling six game schedule over four days, May 22-26, and fought hard against the #1-ranked LSU Eunice for a shot at the championship. This year’s 2nd place is added to the impressive history of softball on the national level. There are four 2nd place finishes, nine national championships and two 3rd place awards. Coach Heinz Mueller, attributes this year’s 2nd place finish and record of 52-9, as a product of incredible team chemistry:

“For me, the most rewarding part of this past year has been the building of relationships and building a team concept while bonding as a team. The outcome of us winning is because of the chemistry that you develop by spending so much time (8 months) together working on the relationship part,” said Head Coach Heinz Mueller.

Mueller has been the head softball coach for 28 years and won his 1300th game last season in 2018. He’s only the second coach in NJCAA history to have accomplished this. Mueller has coached 125 All-Americans, 80 Academic All-Americans, has had over 250 of his student athletes graduate from Phoenix College under his tenure, and of those that graduated, 182 went on to receive four-year softball scholarships to major universities across the nation.
