Phoenix College is distributing a limited number of free cap/gown/tassel packages to students who've committed to participate in the commencement ceremony. Stop by the Hannelly Center/Welcome Desk to inquire if your size is available. If we don't have your size, please purchase your regalia package from Balfour using the link below. Stop by the Hannelly Center as soon as possible to determine if we have your size in stock. If you need, or want, to purchase your package, it must be placed at least 4 weeks prior to the commencement ceremony to ensure it'll arrive in time.

VETERANS

If you are a veteran and would like to wear the Veteran's commencement stole, please contact Veterans Services at 602.285.7342 or PC-Veteran-Services@phoenixcollege.edu. A district-wide veterans convocation is hosted by MCCCD. To learn more and RSVP, visit maricopa.edu/convocations.

CULTURAL STOLES

The District hosts cultural convocations, which take place throughout the area, in May. If you attend one of these events, you'll receive a stole that you can wear at the general Phoenix College commencement ceremony. To learn more and RSVP, visit maricopa.edu/convocations.

DISTINCTION CORDS

Degree seeking students may receive a distinction cord which is based on the grade point average at the end of the previous fall semester. There will be no spring semester grades taken into consideration for your graduating GPA. If your GPA is 3.5 or above, you will receive a free gold cord when you check in for the commencement ceremony.

HONORS PROGRAM

If you're receiving honor’s designations from the Honors Program, contact the coordinator of this program directly at PC-Honors@phoenixcollege.edu.

PHI THETA KAPPA

Are you a member of PTK, and planning to wear regalia at commencement? Visit http://www.ptk.org/Store.aspx and click "login" in the upper right corner. PTK regalia must be ordered prior to commencement in order to receive it on time; refer to delivery timeframes at the PTK store.

Follow instructions for entering your Phi Theta Kappa membership number and school information, which is found on the membership card you received in the mail. After sucessfully entering this information, choose from PTK regalia approved for Phoenix College commencement ceremonies, which includes one, or both, of the following:

How to Wear Regalia

WHAT DO YOU WEAR UNDER YOUR GOWN?

What you wear under your cap and gown is about comfort and style! Think business-casual dress, and remember: your shirt collar or dress top will show. Wear comfortable shoes suited for the surface — a football field? Stairs to climb or descend? Check to see what the temperature will be during the ceremony and make sure you are prepared. Most importantly, wear something that won’t distract from the formality of the ceremony and is the right fit for post-ceremony dinner or an outing with family and friends.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE WRINKLES FROM GOWNS & STOLES?

First, try hanging garments in a steamy bathroom, or using a garment steamer. If you choose to iron your graduation gown, here are a few quick tips:

Never keep the iron in one spot—move it continuously. Keep it on the lowest setting possible!
Turn the gown inside out and use the warm setting.
Hang the gown to keep it wrinkle-free.
If you're ironing a stole, iron it face down, not directly on front side stitching.

HOW DO YOU WEAR A CAP?

Wear your cap, or mortarboard, like the academic pro who you are. Place the cap on your head so the point is in the front, about 1 inch above the eyebrows. Your mortarboard should be worn level on your head, and the tassel should be placed on the right side.

DO YOU WEAR YOUR TASSEL ON THE RIGHT, OR LEFT, SIDE?

Wear your graduation tassel on the right side of your mortarboard. When you have received your diploma, you will be told to flip your tassel to the left side!

HOW DO YOU WEAR CORDS?

Here’s how to properly wear your graduation cords:

Once you are in your gown, first place your graduation stole around your neck, making sure the ends are at the same length.
Place your honor cord(s) on top of your graduation stole, again making sure the cords are at the same length.
