Dual Enrollment teachers in the academic disciplines at Maricopa Community Colleges must have a master’s degree in the content area or a master’s degree in any area with 18 credit hours of graduate-level courses in the area they plan to teach. The Arizona Teachers Academy tuition scholarship is a great way to pay for those credits while pursuing your qualification. Graduate courses taken for Dual Enrollment eligibility can also be seamlessly applied to a future Master of Arts in Education if you decide to pursue that route.
How Does the Scholarship Work?
- To be considered for the Arizona Teachers Academy scholarship, apply to an Arizona public university.
- Apply for financial aid through the FAFSA program.
- The Arizona Teachers Academy program varies at each participating university. Be sure to agree to your program's teaching service obligations.
- Complete your degree or certificate.
- Teach in an Arizona public school for every year you received funding to fulfill your service obligation.

Minimum Requirements
Here are the minimum requirements to become a Dual Enrollment teacher in academic and occupational courses at Maricopa Community Colleges:
Option A
Master’s degree in the discipline to be taught.
Option B
Master’s degree in any area with 18 graduate credits in the discipline to be taught.
Option C
Master’s degree in any area with tested experience approved by Maricopa Community Colleges’ discipline-specific Instructional Council (IC). Instructors qualifying with tested experience must submit the rubric to indicate they met the criteria and must submit supporting documentation. See HLC minimum qualifications for hiring. Alternative Minimum Requirements for Teaching Occupational Courses
Instructors teaching occupational courses are required to have one of the following:
- A bachelor’s degree in the field from an accredited college or university plus three years of experience in the field or
- Five years of experience in the field
