Affiliated Practice
Eligibility Requirements
Dental hygienists are eligible to enter into an affiliated practice relationship if they:
- Hold an active license in good standing pursuant to this article (32-1289.01)
- Enter into an affiliated practice relationship with a dentist who holds an active license pursuant to this chapter.
- Be actively engaged in dental hygiene practice for at least five hundred hours in each of the two years immediately preceding the affiliated practice relationship.
- Maintain an appropriate level of contact, communication, and consultation with the affiliated dentist
- Complete 12 hours of specific continuing education that can be included in the 54 hours required for triennial renewal
- Advise the patient that care is provided by a licensed, registered dental hygienist and does not take the place of a diagnosis or treatment plan by a dentist
- Limit services to those duties within the terms of the affiliated practice agreement
Educational Requirements for the AP RDH
- 4 hours in medical emergencies
- 8 hours in any two of the following:
- Pediatric
- Special health care needs population
- Preventive Dentistry
- Public health community-based dentistry
